When I was looking for my first house in Maine in the early 2000s, I shared a wish list with my agent and recall him lovingly saying: "Just remember, buyers are liars."
It's a phrase that's rattled around in my head often as a real estate broker myself now. It's so important to have a wish list, but it's equally important to have an open mind and not be too precious. You might love exactly what you thought you didn't want!
For instance, I used to proclaim that I was staunchly opposed to living in a "clear-cut subdivision of Colonials" when shopping for my current home.
And, um, look where I ended up (!!).
Did this happen to you when home shopping, too? What was your slice of home buying humble pie?
